Are you a fan of crime series, mysteries and thrilling police investigations? If so, don't miss the new true crime documentary Dead in the Water, premiering on 10 March at 21:00 CET on Viasat True Crime. This gripping true story is full of dramatic twists and turns, with the investigation and forensic analysis of evidence playing a key role. For years it seemed that the perpetrator would escape justice…

A mysterious murder at sea - was it the perfect crime?

In July 1978, the bodies of two British citizens - Chris Farmer and Peta Frampton - were discovered off the coast of Guatemala. Both had been brutally tortured and their bodies thrown overboard, weighted down with heavy engine parts. The last message they sent to their families mentioned their journey to Honduras on a yacht owned by an American man.

The trail of the killer disappeared for almost 40 years. For decades, investigators were unable to gather enough evidence and the case remained unsolved. Everything suggested it was almost the perfect crime - brutal, with no witnesses and no evidence to withstand the test of time. It wasn't until 2016 that the case was reopened, thanks to the tireless efforts of the victims' families and the power of social media. What new evidence has finally solved the mystery?

Shocking evidence and criminal psychology - key themes of the series

Dead in the Water is a true crime documentary that meticulously examines every aspect of ths case. The series features:

  • Archive footage and letters from the victims - revealing their journeys and final moments before their disappearance.
  • A reconstruction of events- how did the murder happen and why did the killer go free for almost 40 years?
  • Forensic analysis - what evidence broke the case?
  • Criminal psychology - who was the suspect and what drove him to commit this horrific crime?

Who was the main suspect?

The prime suspect in the case was an American sailor, Silas Duane Boston, who had taken Chris and Peta on board his yacht. For years he remained elusive, living at large and evading justice. It was his own sons - teenagers at the time of the crime - who, decades later, broke their silence and revealed what had happened on board. Boston was arrested in 2016, but never stood trial, as he died before the trial could begin.
